Pat Vos says she wants to bring a new look and a new feel to Brazeau County council. In order to make that happen she is running for the position of reeve in next month’s municipal election.

“It’a time for change. It’s time for fresh thinking and new ideas,” she says.

Vos has been a prominent businesswoman in the community for many years. During that time she has also volunteered with organizations such as Family and Community Support Services, the Drayton Valley Community Foundation and the DV 100 bike race.

“I support the greater good of the community in any way possible,” she says.

This election is not Vos’s first foray into municipal politics. She served on county council between 2007 and 2010. She was elected Brazeau County reeve in 2013 and served in that role for a little more than a year before stepping aside.

If she’s successful in the upcoming election, Vos says she aims to take the experience she has gained over the years as a life-long learner to help develop Brazeau as a peaceful, inclusive county to live, work and play. To do that she would listen to the opinions of all members of council and then work together to build a better and stronger Brazeau County.

“I’m a leader, I’m not a micro manager. I’ve studied leadership non-stop since I first took a course in 2002,” she says. “I respect what everybody brings to the table and then collectively we work on developing the best strategy to move forward.”

Vos says one of the main issues she’d like to work on involves concerns over the County’s financial stability, which she would be keen to address. That process would include taking steps to increase the County’s reserves, which she believes have been allowed to run down over the years. She would also like to make sure that council decisions are made in a manner that benefits the greatest number of citizens.

As reeve my highest priority will be fiscal responsibility, fairness and consideration of the number of residents that benefit from each decision,” she says.

Vos says she felt that the County had too many rules in place when she last served on council.  Today she says she feels that perhaps there aren’t as many as there should be, which can lead to confusion and lack of clarity.

If she becomes reeve she promises a no-nonsense approach to decision making that is both honest and straightforward.

“I don’t play games, she says.

Vos is one of two people  hoping to be elected as Brazeau County reeve. The other candidate is incumbent Bart Guyon. Election day in the County, and in other municipalities across the province, is Monday October 20.
