Get ready to run, ride or walk. The annual Terry Fox Run is coming up September 19
Once again this year organizers have opted to make this a virtual event. That means there will be no large gatherings and no mass start. Instead each participant is asked to take part on their own, in any way they can.
According to the Terry Fox Foundation the decision to go virtual for a second year comes because , “we are in a transitional year of the pandemic. Local public health guidelines are changing and regions are moving into different “steps” or “stages” of their re-opening plans at rates that vary across Canada.
“It leaves the Foundation with a challenge in trying to establish a “one size fits all” strategy, as we did in 2020. As a national organization, we recognize that our approach needs to reflect the reality each region faces.”
Pat Cameron, one of the organizers for the Drayton Valley event says uncertainty over what to expect come September 19 led to the decision to follow the virtual run path once more.
“We encourage all interested parties to participate in any way they can, “one day, your way”. Please take the time to honor Terry’s memory on September 19 if possible. Walk, run, ride, or hike – what matters most is that you support your local community and fundraise for cancer research. Try like Terry!”
Public support and contributions are important to furthering the work and successes for which the Foundation and its related research and treatment facilities strive. If you wish to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation, please visit www.terryfox.org .
“We are looking forward to working with Drayton Valley and area next year to provide a safe and successful in-person run,” says Cameron.
