The search is on for a name for Drayton Valley’s new school. The Wild Rose School Division will put together a committee to consider possible names for the school, which will house both the existing HW Pickup Middle School and the Drayton Christian School.
The committee will include staff and school council representatives from both schools involved in the move. One possibility is the adoption of one common name for the campus along with having separate names for the middle school and the Christian school, both of which will maintain their distinct identities in spite of sharing a building.
The creation of the new school was officially announced by representatives from the provincial government February 17. The overall project, which includes the demolition of both the existing middle school and the old Eldorado School, has a price tag of $36.4 million.
Land adjacent to Frank Maddock High School has been selected as the location for the building.
Work is expected to get under way this spring with an anticipated completion date in 2023.
