Community involvement is one of the main motivators for Ryan Fynn putting his name forward to serve on town council.
“I really believe in the potential of Drayton Valley. I want to help guide growth in a way that supports families, businesses, and future generations,” said Fynn via email interview.
Fynn has called Drayton Valley home since 1998 and has always believed in the importance of getting involved and giving back. He and his wife are now raising three boys in the community, and Fynn is hoping his input in council can ensure Drayton Valley continues to be a place where families want to live.
On top of being a father, Fynn is also the general manager of a local hotel and earned the General Manager of the Year award in 2024.
“I’m proud of the team we’ve built there and the recognition we’ve earned,” said Fynn.
His time with the hotel has also given him more than 15 years of leadership experience in the hospitality industry.
“I’ve learned how to build strong teams, manage budgets, and get results in a busy environment,” he said.
During his spare time, Fynn is actively involved in several organizations within the community. Currently, he is serving as president of the Drayton Valley Hospitality and Tourism Authority, vice chair of the Drayton Valley Community Foundation, and member of the Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks Council.
“My involvement with groups like DVHTA, DVCF, and the EPBR has given me a good understanding of what our community needs, from tourism and recreation to business and long-term planning,” said Fynn.
Along with his wife, Fynn has also been organizing the Drayton Valley Christmas Lights map for the past four years. Each year they set up a website where people can register homes that have been decorated so families can plan a Christmas light tour.
In the past, Fynn has also been a member of the Land Use Bylaw Steering Committee, the Business Support Network Steering Committee, the Economic Development Committee, the Drayton Valley Chamber of Commerce, and projects like This is Drayton Valley and Let’s Volunteer.
“If I’m elected, I’d like to focus on a few key things: helping local businesses succeed and encouraging new opportunities, working with others to keep our community vibrant and inclusive, and making sure that as we grow, we hold on to the quality of life that makes this a great place to live,” he said.
Fynn is aware that being on council is about serving the community and that means listening to what they have to say.
“I’m approachable, I like working with people, and I’m comfortable looking at challenges and finding solutions that make sense for everyone,” he said.
His drive to serve the community and help guide its growth comes down to wanting Drayton Valley to continue being a welcoming community.
“Drayton Valley isn’t just where I live; it’s where my wife and I are raising our boys, and it’s a community I’m proud of. I’d be honoured to earn the support of the community and work hard on their behalf.”
