With a new school on the way for Drayton Valley, the Wild Rose School Division is asking the public to suggest possible names for the facility.
The school will act as a home to both Drayton Christian School, which accommodates grades K-9, and HW Pickup middle school, which has students in grades 5-8. The plan is for each of those schools to maintain their distinct identity, with a new name created for the campus that they will both share. That name will provide a practical way of referring to common spaces the two schools will be sharing as well as promoting a spirit of cooperation and offering the potential of some shared athletic teams.
There is also the possibility that HW Pickup will be renamed as it moves to its new location. The school is currently named after former Drayton Valley mayor Howard Pickup.
An online survey on the school division website, wrsd.ca, allows the public to submit suggested names for both shared campus and the middle school.
The deadline to submit suggestions is May 21. A final decision on names for the schools will be made by the Wild Rose School Board.
