Homeless praised

A tire slashing spree in Drayton Valley earlier this month was brought to an end thanks to two members of the local homeless population.

The incidents took place on the evening of September 4.  RCMP  Sergeant Ryan Hoetmer told town council this week that police had received a total of 21 reports of vehicles damaged from various locations around town that night. A pair of homeless people spotted someone slashing tires in a hotel parking lot and performed a citizen’s arrest, detaining one suspect. Otherwise, Hoetmer said, the spree would likely have continued until police could catch up with the perpetrators.

“It was two of our homeless population that stopped that from happening,” he said.

Hoetemner said the tire slashing was the work of “a couple of kids from town,” and that charges are pending.
