Triathlon coming up

Get ready to swim, cycle and run. The Drayton Valley Triathlon is coming up in not much more than a month.

After a two-year hiatus brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, the triathlon is set to go Saturday May 7.

At last week’s town council meeting Race Director Sharron Oakey said the intent was once again for the focus of the event to be in the area of Park Valley Pool and Rotary Park. After starting in the pool, the cycling section will see riders leave town and head to Rocky Rapids and back along the Coulee Road. They’ll return to Rotary Park before heading off on foot towards Northview Pond. Some roads in the area around the pool will be closed while the event is in progress.

“This is the route we’ve used for quite a few years now,” said Oakey.

“We want to go with what’s tried and tested and get an event done. I think everyone is really looking forward to doing this again.”

Previous years have seen between 130-200 participants take part in the triathlon, Oakey said she’s hoping to see a similar number take part this year.

More details on the event, including registration information, are available on the Town of Drayton Valley website.
