Homeless number falls

There are currently an estimated 69 people living completely unsheltered in Drayton Valley. According to a report to council from the Town’s community services department, that number is lower than it was earlier this year. At least 15 people have not returned to the community since the evacuation in early May due to the Buck Creek Fire.

Woman watches as business burns

“Thursday early afternoon I was in Evansburg picking up some supplies and saw the Evansburg fire start up again,” she said in an email. “The wind was crazy strong. I saw the smoke again with the Parkland fire and started to organize our personal items better.”

Thunder here to stay

It looks like there will be Alberta Junior Hockey League action in Drayton Valley for the foreseeable future. The Drayton Valley Thunder has come to a multi-year agreement with the Town regarding use of the Omniplex.

Council looks at liquor stores

Drayton Valley has more liquor and cannabis stores than most similar communities according to a report brought to town council last week. However, council were advised against taking steps to cap the number of such businesses allowed in town.

Pool opening set
