There are currently an estimated 69 people living completely unsheltered in Drayton Valley. According to a report to council from the Town’s community services department, that number is lower than it was earlier this year. At least 15 people have not returned to the community since the evacuation in early May due to the Buck Creek Fire.
Denise Chesterman, CAO of the Brazeau Foundation, said the history of the lodge actually goes back a little more than half a century.
Brazeau County residents with questions, kudos or concerns about the handling of the Buck Creek Fire will be able to have their say June 26.
Residents of Drayton Valley and Brazeau County will have a little extra time to pay their property taxes this year.
“Thursday early afternoon I was in Evansburg picking up some supplies and saw the Evansburg fire start up again,” she said in an email. “The wind was crazy strong. I saw the smoke again with the Parkland fire and started to organize our personal items better.”
It looks like there will be Alberta Junior Hockey League action in Drayton Valley for the foreseeable future. The Drayton Valley Thunder has come to a multi-year agreement with the Town regarding use of the Omniplex.

Things are looking good in Alberta’s oil patch. After some very tough years activity has bounced back, as has the price of a barrel of crude. But the current level of prosperity doesn’t always filter down to the communities where the industry is focused.
Drayton Valley has more liquor and cannabis stores than most similar communities according to a report brought to town council last week. However, council were advised against taking steps to cap the number of such businesses allowed in town.
